AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College senior center fielder Jason Iles has been named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Team, the league office announced today.
The team was selected by OAC faculty athletic representatives. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his second year of participation in the sport. Iles (Fayetteville) maintained a 3.89 GPA as an education major. Also a 2008 Academic All-OAC selection, Iles’ community service efforts included umpiring youth baseball and basketball leagues. On the diamond, Iles batted .349 and led the Quakers in hits (45), triples (3) and stolen bases (20). Iles was a second team All-OAC pick in 2008. “This is a great way to cap a great career,” Wilmington head coach Tony Haley said. “Jason brought a lot to our baseball program and he brought a lot to the campus community. We all congratulate and will certainly miss him.”
