Calvin claims 2006 NCAA titleKnights place five runners in top 1311/18/06
WEST CHESTER, Ohio — Calvin College placed five runners in the top 13 to capture the 2006 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Saturday at Voice of America Park. The event was hosted by Wilmington College.
The Knights, the 2005 NCAA runners-up, finished with 37 points to easily defeat runner-up New York University, which finished with 92 points. Allegheny (212), Cortland State (213), St. John's, Minn. (234), Luther (243), Williams (278), The College of New Jersey (301), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (310) and Haverford (314) rounded out the top 10. Macharia Yuot of Widener, the 2003 and 2005 individual runner-up, captured his first NCAA cross country championship in his final race. Also finishing in the top 10 were Tim Finnegan of Calvin, Julian Boggs of Colorado College, Willy Kaul of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Jed Christensen of Calvin, Ryan Place of Allegheny, Will Leer of Pomona-Pitzer, Nicholas Hird of North Central, James Nally of Cortland State and Tyler Sigl of Wisconsin-Platteville. Thirty-two teams and 56 individual runners participated in the race, the largest field ever for an NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
