Martin, Medley, Green earn All-Ohio Athletic Conference honorsMartin named to first team11/23/09
AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College linebacker Bryce Martin leads a three-player Quaker contingent to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference football teams, announced today by the league office.
Martin was a first-team selection while linebacker Chris Medley and special teams player Luke Green were honorable mention selections. Martin (Wilmington) was the OAC’s leading tackler with 123 stops on the season. His 303 tackles — accrued in three seasons —rank No. 6 on the WC all-time list. The junior linebacker will graduate in May 2010 and will forego his final year of eligibility. “Bryce earned this award. It was nice to see the other people in the conference recognize the year he had,” Wilmington head coach Barry Wulf said. “He had a great career. He has so much passion for the game. He is such an instinctive player and has a nose for the football.” Medley (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) had 90 tackles to rank third in the conference. An All-OAC Second Team pick in 2008, the senior ends his career with 224 stops. “Chris has worked hard for four years. He has done everything the right way,” Wulf said. “He has been the leader of our defense and a great ambassador for Wilmington College football.” Green (Wilmington) opted to delay knee surgery in order to play his senior year for the Quakers. “When you hear Luke’s story, you understand what a quality player and person he is,” Wulf said. “He blew his ACL in a summer workout. The doctors told him he could get surgery and miss his senior year or he could play and deal with the pain. He chose to play, and he gutted it out. He did a nice job as a receiver and really led our special teams play.”
