Dave Heidrich was part of Wilmington's second-place 400 freestyle relay team.
WHEELING, W. Va. — Wilmington College dropped duals to Notre Dame College and Wheeling Jesuit Saturday as the Quakers returned to competition for the first time in more than a month.
“Notre Dame and Wheeling are both exceptional teams,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “Their top ends were very good and they have depth, but we competed with them.”
Senior John Creech (Dayton/Centerville) touched third in the 200 and the 100 butterfly.
“John had an awesome meet,” Breen said. “He had his best-ever in-season 200 fly. He’s always a late in the year kind of swimmer, but he was impressive today with two nice swims.”
Josh Ward (Sidney) touched second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 free.
“Josh had a good day in the sprints. He missed a turn a little bit in the 100 free, but had solid performances after a period of training like we had in Florida,” Breen said.
Mark Fernandez (Milford) finished third in the 1,000 freestyle.
Dustin Anderson (West Chester/Lakota West) touched third in the 100 backstroke.
Ward, Dave Heidrich (Xenia/Beavercreek), Kenny Holter (Cincinnati/LaSalle) and Creech teamed to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay.
“We had some kids that were ready to compete and had great meets. We had some kids that were a little bit rusty,” Breen said. “We also had some sickness, which doesn’t help, either.”
Wilmington will travel to Alliance to face Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual on Jan. 23.
