The Wilmington College Lady Quakers finished their recent European tour with a record of 2-1. Their fourth scheduled game against Bratislava, Slovakia was cancelled.
The Lady Quakers lost their first game in over-time against AC Sparta of Prague by a score of 83-77. Allie Meranda and Ki Godfrey led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points each. Head Coach Jerry Scheve said, "The first game is usually the toughest on a tour like this, because of all the travel. But I was very happy with how we played. They were a strong team, and I thought we competed very well.
The next night the Lady Quakers defeated BA Sparta of Prague by a score of 63-60. Kortney kin led the scoring with 18 points, followed by Allie Meranda with 14. Scheve said, "This game reminded me of a typical OAC game. Both teams played hard and it was very physical. I was very pleased with the win."
In Munich the lady Quakers took on a very tall AC Bayern-Munich team, and came away with an impressive 96-50 victory. Stephanie Rickert led the scoring with 21 points, followed by Andrea Anderson with 14. Scheve said, "They were a very tall team, but we were a little quicker, and we shot the ball extremely well."
Scheve continued, "From a basketball standpoint the trip was very beneficial to us. Anytime you get ten days of practice and three competitive games during the off-season you should improve, and we did. More importantly, anytime you are able to take a trip like this, the girls become that much closer, and I think that will carry over to next season. Beyond basketball, the trip was a wonderful and very educational experience for all of us. The girls had a great time as tourists, but I think they also now have a much better understanding of European history. When you visit a place like Dachau, you can't help but be moved."

Today was our second day in Munich! We arrived yesterday afternoon after a
beautiful drive through the Alps, where we stopped to eat a nice lunch
overlooking the Mondsee Lake.
The city of Munich is very modern but keeps its
history with it's older buildings and museums. Along with being a clean city
almost everyone rides bicycles and recycles. We finished the night off with a
bavarian meal at the Hoffbrauhaus, where there was good food, good music, and
fun people!
Today we went on a tour around the city and shopped throughout the center of
town. Then we went on to play a local German team which we defeated 96-50! Tomorrow
we will continue our journey with a trip to Dacchu and Olympic Park.
Hope to write once more.
Caio!

Sorry it has taken so long to write! We started off in Prague, also known as
Praha. The city is beautiful, with all the architecture, kind of makes you
think your on a movie set. The first three days we got to see the sights of
this wonderful city, sights such as the Charles Bridge, the Konopiste Castle
and the St. Vitus Cathedral.
Our first night we ate at a traditional Bohemian restaurant which served us
three different kinds of meat including duck, lamb and ham. We got to listen
to the traditional style of music in Praha along with meeting tons of new
people.
The second and third days were filled will tours and shopping throught the city
of Prague. In the eveing we got to see the city lights of Prague and also
played against a local Czech team, splitting the contests against the Czechs.
Today we arrived in Austria after a four hour bus drive of rolling hills and
beautiful scenery. We met at the hotel and then continued to the park which is
kind of like Kings Islands but smaller. After the park we went to dinner at a
local venue. After listening to music and eating delicious food we finished
the night at going to a nearby festival.
Tomorrow we will tour and have a game in the evening and travel to Munich the
following morning. Hope to write to you soon.
Peace.

My name is Colleen McLain, a junior student assistant coach for your Lady Quakers. Today on Monday 11, 2009, myself and The Lady Quakers along with family and friends have boarded the United Airlines for an experience of a lifetime. We have been given this amazing opportunity to go on a trip across seas. So with pleasure I’d like to keep the community, family members and friends back home updated on how everything is going in Europe.
As of right now this is a basic summary of what will be doing when we arrive in Germany tomorrow. We will be landing in Munich and from there be traveling to Prague the “Golden City” of the Czech Republic. There we will be seeing the Charles Bridge, St. Vitus Cathedral and Konopiste Castle and many other wonderful sights. While in the Czech Republic the Lady Quakers will go up against two of the local Czech teams in games.
From Prague, we will travel into Austria to Vienna. During our time in Vienna we plan on seeing the Opera House on the Ring, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and Schonbrunn Palace. We will also be playing a local Austrian team during our stay in Vienna.
From Vienna, we will make out last trip, going back to Munich with time to explore the city, while enjoying a nice dinner at the Hofbrauhaus. In Munich we will be seeing New Town Hall and much more including a trip to Dachau Concentration Camp. The Lady Quakers will also match up against a local German team during the time we are in Germany.
I plan to keep a blog every day of what we do and the sights we see, depending on whether I can find a computer! I’d also like to update you on how The Lady Quakers do during their games. I hope that this blog will be both interesting and informative, because we are taking a trip of a lifetime and we want to share our experience with everyone. I’ll be keeping in touch, until the next blog!
