OAC PRESEASON POLL MEDIA RELEASE
AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College was picked to finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference by the women’s coaches’ preseason poll. The Lady Quakers received 69 total votes and two first-place votes in the coaches’ balloting. Defending OAC regular-season and conference tournament champion Capital was picked to repeat. “Six of those teams beat us last year and a seventh one took us to overtime twice, so I’m not sure why we’re getting all that respect from them,” Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve said. The Lady Quakers return their top 11 scorers from last year’s squad that went 19-8 and advanced to the OAC Tournament quarterfinals. Leading the group will be All-America senior post Kortney Kin (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale). Kin was the OAC scoring leader at 21.1 points per game and ranked second with 8.4 rebounds per contest. Among the returning players for WC this season are senior point guard Marianne McGoron (Hamilton/Fenwick), who averaged nine points and 4.7 assists. The frontcourt contingent will feature senior Claire Brown (Batavia/Glen Este) and junior Olivia Waters (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian), who combined for 17 points and 14 rebounds per game. The Lady Quakers will get the season under way against Rose-Hulman in first-round play of the Wilmington Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 20.
