ALLIANCE — A 10-minute stretch midway through the game was the difference as Mount Union handed Wilmington College a 77-58 setback in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Wilmington to 1-2 in the OAC, 2-3 overall. Mount Union is now 2-0 in conference play, 6-0 for the season.
The Lady Quakers and Purple Raiders went back and forth in the opening 15 minutes of play. When Steph Prechtel (Wadsworth) scored off an Andrea Anderson (Laurelville/Logan Elm) assist at 5:14, Mount Union’s lead was reduced to 27-25.
The Raiders, though, closed the half with a 9-1 burst to take a 36-26 advantage at the break.
Mount Union’s run continued into the second half. The Raiders opened the stanza on a 14-4 spurt that pushed the lead to 50-30 at 13:15.
The Lady Quakers pulled to within 16 points when Claire Brown (Batavia/Glen Este) hit a pair of free throws at 12:08, but could get no closer.
Kortney Kin (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale) led Wilmington with 12 points. Olivia Waters (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) added seven points. Prechtel scored six points and pulled down team-high seven rebounds. Anderson and Ki Godfrey (Marysville) added six points apiece.
The Lady Quakers will host Otterbein 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
