AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College has been picked to finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season, according to results of a preseason poll of the conference’s women’s basketball coaches released Wednesday.

Wilmington College head coach Jerry Scheve is optimistic about his upcoming 17th season on the Wilmington College sideline. While the Lady Quakers' overall depth is an unknown quantity, their depth in experience is beyond question.

Wilmington College junior post Kelly Peters (Spencerville) has been named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. Peters averaged 16.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game to lead the Lady Quakers to a 19-8 record this season.

Wilmington college junior point guard Sam Hood and junior post Kelly Peters were among four Lady Quakers who received Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors. Following Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal losses, WC women's basketball coach Jerry Scheve and men's basketball coach Scott Reule offered little optimism about their teams' chances of receiving at-large NCAA tournament bids. Sunday night, their concerns were validated as both teams learned they had missed the NCAA tournament cut.

Wilmington College's bid for an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship ended Thursday with a 68-62 semifinal loss at Capital. The No. 2 seed Crusaders advance to face No. 1 Baldwin-Wallace in Saturday's 3 p.m. final in Berea. Baldwin-Wallace defeated No. 4 seed Otterbein, 72-60, in Thursday's other semifinal.

Five players reached double figures as Wilmington College got past Mount Union, 81-68, in an Ohio Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Tuesday at Fred Raizk Arena. The No. 3 seed Lady Quakers will travel to Bexley Thursday to face No. 2 seed Capital, which beat No. 7 Ohio Northern, 59-47, in another quarterfinal game Tuesday.

The win ends Wilmington's regular season at 13-5 in the OAC, 18-7 overall. Marietta's season ends at 3-15 in the conference, 6-19 overall.
