Jessica Prichard and the Quakers played to a third-place finish at the Capital Fall Invitational.
CANAL WINCHESTER — Wilmington College turned in its top performance of the fall season to finish third at the Capital University Fall Invitational at Westchester Golf Course on Sunday.
The Quakers shot 372 in the 18-hole event. Mount Union won the six-team tourney title with a 361.
“We are improving. The girls are working hard. They’re really close with one another and they have bought into a team concept,” Wilmington head coach Ernie Blankenship said.
Amanda Dixon (Hillsboro) fired an 81 (40-41) to lead the Quakers. Dixon’s score tied John Carroll’s Jaqueline Leuby, who was the tournament medalist on a scorecard playoff.
“Amanda actually bogeyed the last hole,” Blankenship said. “She played really well today, and could have played much better. She was very frustrated with her putting.”
Rachel Herman (West Union) shot 90 (43-47), the sixth lowest score in the field.
“I am really proud of Rachel. She played extremely well. She is listening and working really hard,” Blankenship said.
Liz Cox (Wilmington) carded a 99 (44-55). Devon Meyer (Arcanum) shot 102 (48-54), and Jessica Prichard (Franklin) carded a 108 (52-56).
Blankenship said the improvement is reason to be optimistic, but not content.
“Even though today was the best we have played as a team, to a player there is still improvement that we can make,” Blankenship said. “I think there are another 15 to 20 shots that we can cut off. We make mistakes because we get tired and we stop thinking. Our conditioning is still a factor. Our score went up significantly on the back side today, and that is the result of fatigue and letting the mental part of our game lapse.”
