Kristen Deutsch powers to a win in the 200 backstroke.
Despite a sparkling performance by Kristen Deutsch, Wilmington College was topped by Wittenberg, 126-71, in a non-conference dual at the WC Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
“We went to the longer format today, which is not our strong suit right now. Plus, we swam a very good team from Wittenberg,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said.
Deutsch (Beavercreek) powered to wins in the 800 freestyle and 200 backstroke.
“Kristen had an amazing day,” Breen said. “She really challenged herself, and that is what we want people to do. We have had a lot of meets in a short period of time. It’s a grind on these kids, but it’s exciting to see somebody who is really tired step up and have an incredible swim. Kristen Deutsch was that swimmer today.”
Julie Creech (Dayton/Centerville) finished second in the 200 butterfly and third in the 200 freestyle. Hannah Anderson (West Chester/Lakota West) was third in the 50 freestyle. Katie Mozingo (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) finished third in the 400 freestyle. Amanda Hirn was third in the 100 breaststroke.
The Quakers will have a break from competition until Ohio Wesleyan comes to town for a Dec. 14 dual.
“We need the break. This gives us a couple weeks to focus. We’re in a position now where, academically, things are going to get challenging for these kids,” Breen said. “These are a couple weeks that we need to really get some quality work done. We can’t always be preparing for meets. We need time to work with them on an individual basis to fix some things.”
