Julie Creech shattered the WC 200-yard butterfly record Sunday.
FINDLAY — Freshman Julie Creech broke the Wilmington College 200-yard butterfly record as the Quakers closed the dual meet season with a 135-86 loss at NCAA Division II University of Findlay Sunday afternoon.
“We had a pretty good meet today,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “It was a good end to the dual meet season. We’re starting to peak, and I’m excited about what’s ahead at the conference meet.”
Creech (Dayton/Centerville), who won the 100 butterfly at Mount Union on Saturday, covered the 200 fly in 2:19.20 on Sunday to beat Findlay’s Jill Herbst by more than 2.5 seconds.
“Julie is having a great season,” Breen said. “To break a school record during the dual season is pretty special. She is talented and she works so hard. Success comes from not just talent, but also effort. She is enjoying success because of her skills and work ethic.”
Kristen Deutsch (Beavercreek) capped a solid weekend with a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle and a third in the 1,000 freestyle. Deutsch won a pair of freestyle races against Mount Union.
Amanda Hirn (West Carrollton) touched second in the 200 breaststroke.
“We had a good day. Findlay has a nice team. They are a small team, in terms of numbers, but they don’t have a middle. They are all really talented athletes," Breen said.
